- Video conference courses (online VC) are offered in a synchronous seminar format with students attending classes at RMC or CFC Toronto or attending onsite classes via video link from their locations.
- Distance learning (DL) courses are offered asynchronously via distributed readings and written interaction (blogs and posts).

WS 557 Advanced Directed Studies (Canadian Command in the Second World War) (VC or DL) Canadian Command in the Second World War explores the practice (art and science) of command in the Canadian Army during the Second World War. The course flows from methodology for studying command to an examination of the functions of commanders from brigade to army level and the challenges of command and control at all levels. The concepts of command technique (the preferred method of conveying intentions and the way in which those intentions and orders were achieved), and operational technique (the preferred method of staging and conducting operations) are explored in detail. Additional areas of investigation include the criterion for how future commanders were identified and selected, how commanders were trained, and the criterion by which they were judged to have succeeded or failed. The dominating theme of personality interaction (positive and negative) runs throughout the course. |
