It is our privilege to officially endorse the Indigenous Knowledge and Learning Working Group. The IKL-WG is a collaboration of staff, faculty, and students who work together in support of increasing and sustaining integration of Indigenous knowledges, cultures, perspectives, and participation into our campus culture and classrooms. We are proud to support the opportunities this group creates and pursues at RMC as it connects the college to the larger movement for reconciliation and indigenization within higher education and the nation. This important project represents positive growth at RMC, a college with special responsibilities as both an academic and governmental institution. The IKL-WG’s initiatives demonstrate the leadership and investment in better futures that RMC prioritizes in its goals for its cadets and in its sense of its own purpose and institutional character.

RMC is dedicated to seeking and maintaining relationships founded in collaboration, recognition, and trust with Indigenous peoples and communities. The college’s role in reconciliation starts on Point Frederick, but the attitudes we foster and the relationships we build stretch far beyond the peninsula. The leaders we shape today will shape the Canada we know tomorrow.

The web page on which this letter appears offers links to services and resources that will be useful to all members of the college. I encourage the RMC community to make use of it, and I am committed to the stronger RMC we will create together.

We congratulate the Indigenous Knowledge and Learning Working Group on what it has accomplished and look forward to supporting its ongoing efforts.

The Commandant,

Brigadier-General Sébastien Bouchard

The Principal

Dr. Harry  Kowal
